7 unusual hearing gifts for this Christmas

Hearing related Christmas gifts

If a loved one already has hearing aids, they already have the gift of hearing, yet it’s an opportunity to give a practical gift. Something unusual that can streamline their daily routine and improve their life. We have compiled a list of ideas to suit all budgets.

1. The gift of an upgrade…

Do you know someone with a hearing aid that’s seen better days, or a gadget-lover who would appreciate the technological advancements in hearing aids like health data tracking for heart rate, steps, calories, activity and distance? There are a range of hearing aids available now to suit all needs – some are even waterproof.

Manual dexterity can be an issue with changing batteries. Rechargeable hearing aids eliminates the fiddly process and have a great battery life, as well as advanced hearing technology.

A new hearing aid may be tiny in size, but they really pack a punch. The impact for the wearer and the people around them can be life changing.

The first step to a new hearing aid is a Full Diagnostic Assessment to find the correct hearing prescription. Book in a Full Diagnostic Assessment with us today.

2. Batteries really keep you going

With a non-rechargeable hearing aid, batteries need to be changed every 2 – 14 days (depending on the battery size). That works out at £60 (£30 per box) per year just for batteries. Gifting batteries can make a huge difference to your loved ones hearing health.

Unsure about which batteries you need? We offer a quick check to ensure you pick the right size. They come in 4 sizes: 10, 312, 13 and 675.

3. Cleaning and maintenance

As with any device, a hearing aid needs regular cleaning and maintenance to ensure peak performance.

A hearing aid wearer will have received a basic maintenance pack when they purchased the hearing aid, but there are other consumables which can keep the aids performing optimally.

Domes and wax filters cost from £10 each for a pack. A pack of each should be enough for a year’s cleaning. They are different shapes and sizes for different hearing instruments.

If your loved one isn’t a client of angli-EAR Hearing please bring a sample of what they already use so that we ensure we supply the correct products.

How about a hearing aid dryer? These nifty gadgets remove the moisture that builds up in a hearing aid. Or a UV lamp also kills any germs for hygiene purposes.

A drying box from angli-EAR Hearing costs £120 and is a great gift for a hearing aid user.

4. Accessories to make life easier…..

Imagine making smart hearing aids even smarter!

Most hearing aids have an app which allows the user to control the volume and change programs via the user’s smartphone.

Some hearing instruments even allow the mobile phones to stream music and calls directly to the hearing aids, performing similarly to wireless headphones –
so the user can hear music, talking books and phone calls directly.

Or a remote control is an alternative to a mobile phone for adjusting hearing aid volume and function. Simply, it works just like a TV remote.

A TV box allows the wearer to listen to the TV at a volume that works for them, whilst everyone else can listen to the TV at their volume. It also works when the TV is muted. It connects the TV directly to the hearing aid.

If you would like any help and advice on the best accessory, please give us a call and we will be happy to help.

5. It’s not just about hearing aids……

Accessories for non-hearing aid users are a great Christmas present for the active person in your life.

A great option is wireless headphones which are designed for running, cycling and swimming.

Shokz are a solid choice.

Shokz uses patented bone conduction technology to transmit sound. Vibrations go through your cheekbones and deliver sound directly to your ear, bypassing the eardrum. These are unique – they keep your ears open to the world and allow you to enjoy high-quality sound whilst maintaining
your situational awareness.

They come in different colours with different functionality but most importantly they are approved by UK Athletics for use in official races.

For the live performance fans, how about custom ear plugs which allow the music in – but ensure hearing is protected without ruining the fun.

Know someone who enjoys shooting? The technology in these clever ear plugs blocks out the sound of the gun/rifle but allows other noises in as normal.

If you have a friend who already has Shooting Plugs, perhaps consider new batteries?

Did you also know that your ear canals continue to grow, so if your shooting plugs are more than 3 years old it may be time for a new set that fits better in your ears.

6. Wax lyrical

If you know someone for whom wax build-up is the cause of their hearing issues or ear irritation, then you could treat them to regular wax removal appointments.

We’ve had clients treat their loved ones to a wax removal appointment for £80, so they can experience the difference!
