Hearing Aids Cambridge | Free, No Obligation, 30 Day Trial

Our COVID procedures remain unchanged.

Since the pandemic started, we have all been expected to wear masks in public spaces as part of the government regulations. As a result of the vaccination roll-out, the Government made the requirement for wearing face masks in public optional from 19th July.

Our priority has always been to ensure we take measures to protect our clients and staff. We have provided more than 10,000 masks since we re-opened and gallons of hand sanitisers in our effort to provide a COVID secure environment.

To date, we have not yet had updated information from our governing bodies or the Government. Our procedures remain the same but we will provide a further update should anything change.

Hearing Aids - Hear Your Life

There is such a wide variety of hearing aids available these days, in different shapes and sizes, with different types of technology. Each one is designed for certain hearing losses and hearing abilities, using sophisticated technology that allows the device to seamlessly monitor the listening environment you’re in, such as a noisy restaurant, in a meeting or in the car, and to adapt to these situations based on your needs.

Do I really need a Hearing Aid?

Hearing aids don’t just help you hear better but they also help to treat a number of other associated health issues. Research has shown that there is a direct link between many other health issues resulting from untreated hearing loss, which include:
• increased risk of dementia – the Lancet Journal says that 9.1% of all dementia could be avoided if hearing loss was treated early;
• depression;
• social isolation;
• being 4 times more likely to suffer from a fall that results in a broken bone.

Sometimes hearing aids are also referred to as being “brain aids” and as can be seen from the above list, all these issues are a result of cognitive decline, a reduction in the brain’s capacity.

Are hearing aids brain aids?

Are you aware that hearing aids can also be referred to as “brain aids”? This is because your brain alters as you begin to hear differently, during this time you will need care and support. Our way of prescribing and fitting you with the correct aids takes this process into account.

Technological advancement in hearing aids

Hearing aids these days are far more advanced than those from a few years ago. They can help you to hear even in background noise, they can be invisible in your ear and some can automatically change their settings depending on where you are.

The right fit

At angli-EAR Hearing we are passionate about finding the right device for your particular needs, type of hearing loss, lifestyle and budget. Since we are proudly independent and have no specific manufacturer affiliation, we can offer you the hearing aid that suits your situation best.

Why it can take a while to get used to a new hearing aid

The reason you need to ‘get used’ to the hearing aids is because the hearing centre of your brain needs to readjust or rehabilitate itself. It has either been under-stimulated due to hearing loss, or incorrectly stimulated due to previous instruments not being able to provide the stimulation that it required. Your brain now needs to start working in a better way which will result in your improved ability to hear.

Re-introducing different sounds to your brain

Another way of thinking about this is to remember a time when you were in a new location. For the first few days you would have heard the cars driving past, for example. After a few more days you no longer heard the cars. It wasn’t that the cars were no longer driving past your location and you were still actually hearing the cars going past, but your brain had adapted to these sounds and had decided that these sounds weren’t providing you with any usable information, so they were filtered out.

In the same way, when the new hearing aids reintroduce sounds to your brain, your brain will focus on all the sounds in your environment, even the ones you don’t want to hear. With prolonged use of the hearing aids, your brain will be able re-categorise these sounds and focus more on the sounds that you want or need to hear, and less on the unwanted sounds.
